A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass
Good afternoon -
I am happy to report that for the second week in a row the Covid numbers are below 10 per 100,000. In fact, they are 5.7 per 100,000 for the 2 weeks ending October 16. In keeping with the metrics that we set this makes it possible for us to lift the mask mandate for public buildings. I do not believe that is an all clear to throw caution to the wind. Our businesses are still free to require masks if they see fit. We still want to keep our schools and particularly our seniors safe so I ask that we all keep the safety of our neighbors in mind. The senior center will take a more gradual path per Val.
Congratulations to Kaitlyn Kyle, this year’s winner of the Easton Arts Council Juried photography contest. I was honored to have her present her work entitled Swans on Aspetuck Reservoir to be displayed with past winners at Town Hall.
From the Health District, there is a nationwide problem with onions from Mexico which carry Salmonella. If you have any such onions, please throw them out. This, of course, is all the more reason to buy our locally grown produce! Also, you may have read about the Aspetuck Apple Barn. Owner Don Simpson has taken ill and neighbors led by Cathy Dunsby have worked to reopen the store in his absence. The store will be open this weekend from 10-5. Hopefully, more hours will follow. This is a stunning example of who we are in Easton, and how we care about each other.
Previously, I have discussed in my posts the importance of critical thinking in evaluating information which is presented to you. This morning I received a phone call from the executive director of the Aspetuck Land Trust. He had received a phone call from an Easton Resident who had received a mailing in yesterday’s mail which he believed provided misinformation regarding the Land Trust. The Aspetuck Land trust is one of the premier not for profits and preservationist organizations in our region. They wanted me to know that they would respond directly to the people of Easton.
Tomorrow, Saturday, October 23rd is the 3-in-1 Recycling Event. Bring your Electronics, clean Bottles & Cans and Prescription Drug Take-Back to Samuel Staples Elementary School from 10 – 2. They offer contactless unloading.
Don’t forget Park and Rec’s Trunk or Treat co-sponsored by the Lion’s club, Easton Girl Scouts, the volunteer Fire Department and Easton EMS. The event begins at 5:30 on October 31.
This will be the last full week before our municipal elections. This is a reminder to educate yourselves about the issues and candidates and above all to vote. Have a great weekend.
