9/1/2023 A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass

Happy Labor Day

Good afternoon,

This week we welcomed all of our students back to school. It is as always, reason to be thankful for our wonderful schools. It also means that school buses are back on the road and children are out and about, so please be careful.

On Monday, the Board of Selectmen held a special meeting which consisted of an executive session to discuss pending litigation. At the beginning of the meeting, the town’s attorney explained why the meeting needed to be noticed to say that the executive session was required to consider this litigation and why no more specificity was necessary or advisable.  Nonetheless, we received a FOIA request for documentation of the specifics of the claim.  Our attorney is working on a second response.

There has also been recurrent concerns expressed about the actual ownership of the land the town is selling to the Aspetuck Land Trust at South Park Avenue and the town's responsibilities at the current time.  Previously, I have explained that a filing was added to the property record prematurely, but that our attorneys had assured us that neither the actual ownership nor the ability to close on the sale when the state delivers its contribution to the land trust were affected by this filing.  Again, because of the recurrent accusations, I have gone back to our attorneys who again assure us that nothing has changed. The sale will go through. There are no issues for the town regarding the South Park property.

The library is considering internal improvements and modifications, therefore the Library Building committee will begin to meet again to hopefully oversee this project. We need volunteers who would consider serving on the committee. Please contact Ginger Fiore at gfiore@eastonct.gov in my office if you would like to participate.
