Flag Pole Image

Good afternoon,

As a final reminder tonight is Movie Night (a drive up presentation) Steven Spielberg’s E.T. at 8:00 PM, at SSES as part of the Easton 175th Celebration. Hope to see you there!

If you happen to pass by Town Hall tonight or over the weekend you will find that for the first time in Easton’s history, the American flag is flying over Town Hall 24/7 with the new solar lighting donated by the Police Benevolent Association, a heartfelt thank you for this amazing donation.

We have our winners for the 175 th logo design contest and they are:
Overall Official Logo - Brooke Alexander Caprio
Young Adult Logo - Makeda Is Ra El Ali Bey
Kids Logo - Hayden Goldstein
They will be recognized in a ceremony next week!  Congratulations to all those who submitted designs.

In town, playgrounds and basketball courts are now open.  Please be responsible in their use, take caution to self-sanitize, social distance and please, please place used wipes, gloves and masks in the receptacles or take them with you to dispose of at home. The library is welcoming back patrons with good participation.
Some limited Park and Rec programs have opened for the summer, and we are slowly ramping up sports on our fields. Last night we discussed creating pickle ball courts in town.

All of these are signs of our measured and careful path forward.  I am not convinced that this pandemic is over in Easton, so vigilance is still our plan. With all of these positives, I would continue to urge caution. There is no guarantee that we will continue to avoid the resurgence you are seeing in much of the rest of our country. Please wear your mask and continue to be diligent regarding personal hygiene. As Connecticut continues to be a haven from the virus, it may well become a destination that is sought after by people from out of state. That will create opportunities to be exposed and our best defense is our own caution. I remain incredibly proud of the people of Easton for the way they have handled the entire pandemic, and I trust that will continue to be the case.

I want to compliment all of you who have come to Town Hall to pay your taxes and have followed the procedures we have put in place for everybody’s safety.  That process is working wonderfully. As a reminder ONLY tax payers wishing to pay in person may enter Town Hall at the Center Road entrance.  For all other services, please call Town Hall for drop off or pick up instructions.

I continue to meet regularly with the ER9 Central Office staff. Everyone wants to know the answers regarding opening schools this fall. All around the country, this is a very fluid situation. We are collaborating with our new health district to work on a plan. I think that we should expect that there will be multiple scenarios and plans and likely pivots between plans based on what the virus will do in the future.Again, this will lead to frustration for many, but the number one concern is the safety of our children and staff, and what defines that may change from week to week, before and during the school year.

Have a safe and happy weekend!
