Tax bills will be mailed on Monday, June 26. Payments are due July 1, 2023, but taxpayers have until August 1, 2023 to pay without penalty. Bills can be paid online (w/vendor fee) by clicking on the blue link on the tax collector’s page on the Town’s web page, https://www.eastonct.gov/tax-collector
Your second installment payment slip for January’s real estate payment is included on your July bill (middle section). No new bill will be sent for January. If you have not received your bills by July 1, or feel you are missing any, please contact our office at 203-268-6291, Ext. 140 or 141.
The insert included with your bill includes information about where your tax dollars are going, as well as general information about your tax bills.
As always, if you have any questions regarding your tax bill(s), please don’t hesitate to call our office or stop by. Also, this is the last week to renew dog licenses.
The Gov. Oliver Wolcott Sr. branch of the Connecticut Sons of the American Revolution will be honoring FIVE American Patriots, with a graveside ceremony on Saturday, August 19th, 10:30, at the Union Cemetery, Easton, CT.
The CTSSAR Color Guard will be presenting a three-volley musket salute and representatives from the Town of Easton, First Selectman Bindelglass, Easton Historical Society and the CTSSAR will be speaking about the FIVE American Patriots, Jared Baldwin, Stephen Gregory, Stephen Hubbell, Zachariah Lacey and Daniel Silliman. Easton’s role during the time of the American Revolution will also be discussed. The ceremony will be a great learning experience, enlightening and a patriotic event. The public is invited to attend.
The Aspetuck Health District has hired an outside consultant to do a community health needs assessment, (CHNA). A Community Forum is scheduled for September 21st at the Fairfield County Hunt Club, located at 174 Long Lots Road in Westport. The space can accommodate a large group, is conveniently located, and has plenty of parking. The Advisory Committee agreed to limit the event to in-person attendance only (no virtual option) to encourage robust conversation. The event is scheduled for 8-10:30am, with a breakfast and networking session from 8-8:30am and scheduled program from 8:30-10:30am. AHD will confirm technology capabilities and opportunity for small group breakout sessions.
The Community Forum is an opportunity to present the CHNA findings and generate meaningful dialogue about community health needs, challenges, and strategies.
I am very pleased to announce that through the generosity of the people of Easton we have raised enough money to donate a dump truck to our sister city of Sviatohirsk, Ukraine. This was their most needed item, and will be used to begin to cart away the seemingly endless amount of debris from the Russian occupation. Hopefully this will be the first of many items which we can provide for them. There will be a day of celebration and support for Ukraine, Sunday, July 9th 1:00pm-dusk at the Ukraine American Club, 279 Kings Drive, Southport. The First Selectman of Westport and I will be speaking about our recent trip as well as talks by the principals of Ukraine Aid International. Tickets are free! Several years ago, the selectmen formed a library building committee to oversee money being raised for an expansion of the library. Costs became greater than they thought they could afford, and the committee became dormant. The library is now considering some internal improvements and modifications and so the committee will begin to meet again to hopefully oversee this project. We need volunteers who would consider serving on the committee. Please contact Ginger in my office if you would like to participate. Previously I had discussed reconstituting the land acquisition committee to consider how the town might purchase at risk properties to protect them for development or preserve them for town usage. We now have three members but are looking for two more, so again please contact us if you are interested.
The town has finished chip sealing the roads scheduled for this year. Over the long-term chip sealing has proven to be economical and efficient. We are constantly recognized for the condition of our roads being excellent and we do this without ever having to raise money through additional bonding to fund the work. Having said that, when the work is first done people are often not happy the first week or so. On the new surface the stones are loose and the road can be dusty, which can be hard, especially on dogs, but the problem goes away with time. I hope you will be patient.
June 30, is the end of our fiscal year so I will review our overall financial standing next week.
Last night was the first summer Thursday night concert at Greiser’s. It was a great event as always. However, the police commission and I remain concerned about people walking along Center Rd. to get to the events, which is a safety concern. Previously the Congregational Church across the street had allowed folks to park in their lot as had been the case since Greiser’s started hosting events several years ago, but this year, unfortunately, they decided not to allow people to park there. Please be very careful when attending these great concerts and we will be stepping up our police presence to ensure your safety.
The police department has free gun locks available. Anyone can come to dispatch and obtain one.
