Good afternoon,
The Covid numbers continue to bounce around in Easton. The increase in hospitalized patients seems to be close to leveling off but I hesitate to make predictions. What comes next is just too hard to know.
This week our hearts go out to the town of Uvalde, Texas and the families of the children of Robb Elementary School. There are no words, but our thoughts and prayers should be with them. Many in town will be wearing orange on Tuesday June 2, in support of National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
Two events are: June 5: Community Garden Build & Plant in Bridgeport for Wear Orange
June 11: March for Our Lives is hosting rallies/marches around the nation, including in Newtown and Westport.
In regards to South Park, I have published a sample conservation easement and explanation from attorney Andrew Kupinse. It can be found in the town meeting section on the town website. Don’t forget that the Town Meeting to vote on the petition to place a conservation easement on the remaining South Park property will be held on May 31, 7PM at Samuel Staples. Last night, after the public hearing, the Board of Selectmen discussed the Affordable Housing plan which must be submitted to the state on June 1. After the public hearing, the selectmen decided to remove all references to any specific pieces of town property including the South Park property. A finalized version will be voted on by the selectmen at the June 2, BOS meeting.
As I said last week, the Memorial Day Parade is a great event in town. The parade begins at the fireman’s green on Monday at 9:30 and proceeds to town hall for a ceremony afterwards. Many just gather at town hall. I hope to see you there.
Join Easton Pride at the Easton Town Hall for the 3rd Annual Pride Flag Raising at 5:30pm on June 1st.
Outdoor celebration to follow at Easton Public Library. The celebration will feature music, food, kids crafts, guest speakers, and more.
Calling all home gardeners. Beginning on June 7th, residents can bring fruits and vegetables from their garden to Shaggy Coos every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Food Rescue US volunteer will pick-up the donated food and deliver it to the Municipal Agent for the Aging’s office for distribution to home-bound seniors in town. Food Rescue US, whose mission is to reduce food waste and food insecurity in America, has paired up with Easton’s Energy & Environment Task Force to provide home-bound seniors with fresh locally grown produce. I would like to personally thank the teachers and students from the Speech Academy who volunteer at Easton Town Hall twice a week assisting with various projects.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend, but remember that this is also a day of remembrance of the 1.4 million people throughout our nation’s history who have made the ultimate sacrifice to help preserve our way of life.
