5/19/2023 A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass
Good afternoon,
One thing that I often hear in town is that there are not enough community events. Last weekend the garden club held their annual Garden Mart which, I was told, completely sold out of all merchandise. In the evening, I had the honor of recognizing the Easton Arts Council’s 25th anniversary at a very well attended party at the library, surrounded by beautiful, mostly local art work. The Memorial Day parade is of course coming on Monday, May 29th. With the unofficial beginning of summer, two great community series begin, the concerts on the hill at Christ Church, and Thursday night gatherings at Greiser’s. There are also two events associated with our sister city project with Ukraine. The stories from Sviatohirsk at the library on Sunday, May 21st from 1:00pm-3:00pm, and a concert at the Ashlar Aspetuck Lodge on June 3rd from 3:00pm-6:00pm. Our fields in town are packed with sporting events and parent supporters. It is both a beautiful and busy time in Easton!
We had two cars stolen this week in town, both with cars outside or in open garages with keys left IN the car. Please remember to take your keys out of your car to help prevent these thefts and make Easton less inviting to thieves.
Tuesday night at the Planning & Zoning Commission meeting at SSES there was a presentation by the group CT 169 Strong. They discussed how affordable housing legislation before the state legislature could affect Easton. When their representatives were asked what we could do as citizens the answer was “reach out to your legislators”. Our two representatives are Ann Hughes and Tony Scott, and our state senator is Tony Hwang. Each have websites and put out regular communication to the people of our town. This is an important and impactful issue for our town, and I would suggest you educate yourselves and make your views known as was recommended.
Easton Senior Center will have an Open House on Wednesday, May 24th from 9:00am-3:00pm. Staff will provide tours throughout the day. Free health screenings from Griffin Hospital will be available. Please come enjoy classes (yoga, meditation, weights, trivia, etc.), as well as free tastings of authentic Mexican, Indian and Italian foods and desserts from 11:30am-2:00pm. We look forward to seeing you!
National Police Week, May 14th-20th, pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety of others. Thank you to all the men and woman who sacrifice daily for the people they protect. In Easton we are particularly blessed to have a group of officers who are so dedicated to our town, both for law enforcement and for community involvement.
Easton Volunteer Emergency Medical Services will be hosting an OPEN HOUSE at our Headquarters located at 448 Sport Hill Road, Easton CT on May 29th from 11:00am to 2:00pm. This open house is being done in conjunction with the end of EMS week. May 21st-27th is a nationally recognized week that celebrates all EMS responders, volunteer or paid, for what they do in their respective communities. More about EMS week to follow next week.
There will be members on hand to give tours of our nearly 100-year-old building and emergency vehicles as well as talk about becoming an EMT and volunteering with Easton Volunteer EMS. We invite the public to stop by after the Memorial Day Parade to enjoy hot dogs and drinks, free of charge.
