4/6/2023 A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass

gf

Good afternoon,

This note is being published today as Town Hall is closed tomorrow for Good Friday. I will update you on any important events at the Board of Selectmen meeting happening tonight, next week. I can tell you that we will be setting the agenda for the annual Town Meeting which meeting will be held on April 24 at 7:00pm at Samuel Staples Elementary School. The agenda will include the town’s budget and the budgets for Region 9 which is the district for our high school, Joel Barlow. I have spoken extensively about town meetings in the past, so I will not repeat myself, but this is the legislative body of the town of Easton. We will hear and discuss these budgets, but approval will be contingent on the referendum which will be held at Samuel Staples Elementary School on May 2, from 6:00am to 8:00pm. You will receive a postcard with the official agenda for the town meeting and poll information. The budget proposal has been discussed and adjusted by the Board of Finance. This is a tremendous undertaking which takes a huge time commitment by the members of the board. I will say this again in the future, but I cannot stress enough the debt we owe them for their time.

The Easton Electric Car Show, sponsored by the Easton Energy & Environment Task Force, will be held Saturday, April 22, from 11:00am-1:00pm at the Easton Public Library (Rain Date: April 23). Come by and see why your neighbors love their electric vehicles! Last year this was a very well attended event.

Tuesday, April 11, there will be an open forum with the First Selectman at the library common room at 7:00.  All are welcome to attend and participate in the discussion.

The steering committee for our sister city relationship with Sviatohirsk, Ukraine continues to meet and generate great ideas for moving ahead. Please see Facebook by typing in the search bar Easton-Sviatohirsk Sister City.

Congratulations to the superintendent of schools, Dr. Jason McKinnon.  The Connecticut PTA named him Outstanding Superintendent for 2023. In the words of assistant superintendent, Dr. Stephanie Pierson Ugol, “Dr. McKinnon, our energetic and visionary superintendent, has made a remarkable, positive impact on the ER9 districts in his year-and-a-half of district leadership. His clear and forward-thinking approach to communication, goal-setting, and long-range strategic planning creates a bright future outlook for students, staff, and families in our communities. This well-deserved recognition is a celebration of excellence in leadership. We are grateful and proud that Dr. McKinnon is our superintendent.”

Happy holidays to all!
