Good afternoon,

Easton K-9 Officer TJ is in the running for a grant of up to $5,000. The funding is from The Hometown Foundation, which provides police K-9s, along with training and equipment, to local law enforcement departments throughout the country. TJ is a 7-year-old German Shepherd, handled by Officer Tamra French. He is trained and certified in building searches; apprehension and handler protection; tracking; narcotics detection and evidence recovery. In addition to their regular patrol work, TJ and Officer French frequently conduct demonstrations for the local schools, girl and Boy Scout troops, town senior center and attend many public events. The Easton PD's K-9 program is funded solely through donations. Funds from the grant would help pay for TJ's food, veterinary care and training. To cast a vote for TJ online go to:  https://k9.hometownfoundation.org/submission/view/103.

Anne Fiyalka will be celebrating her 103rd birthday on February 15th. Anne has been a longtime resident who among other things worked at our polls on election day for decades. Happy Birthday, Anne!

The Planning and Zoning Commission met this week. A number of changes to our zoning regulations were discussed among the members of the commission. Most of the changes were designed to bring our regulations into compliance with state statutes which change from time to time. The changes must then go to a public hearing. After the public hearing, the commission will decide whether or not to implement them.

The Joel Barlow robotics team could use the community's help in finding a large practice space to prepare for this year’s competition. The team is building a bot to meet the 2024 challenge (see: https://youtu.be/9keeDyFxzY4?si=uy2edYjwKKPTxR16). In order to do well at competition, the team needs ample space to fully test the machine and for driver/operator practice. Unoccupied commercial office or warehouse space, or unoccupied retail space could be a great. Our team is happy to list the location owners as in-kind sponsors so they can get a business tax write-off for helping a non-profit in the community that supports our high school students and their career pathways as future engineers, technology professionals, and innovators! Please reach out to Bill Kinahan or the team at: joelbarlowrobotics@gmail.com. Visit us online to learn more about becoming a sponsor: https://www.4572.org/sponsoring and how your investment plays a huge role in our success and helps to propel kids forward as leaders in STEM. Any assistance you could provide would be extremely helpful as they have not had any luck finding space through other channels and Barlow's gym areas are not large enough and limit their practice. We really need to find something soon as competitions are this winter.

Save the date for the Annual Boy Scout Gourmet Breakfast, March 23rd at Easton Community Center from 7:30am to noon. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by emailing Troop66Breakfast@gmail.com.

Enjoy your weekend,

Dave
