2/16/24 A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass

Happy President's Day

Good afternoon,

This week we had the biggest snow storm to hit Easton in two years. As always, our Public Works Department did a fantastic job clearing our roads, and we thank them for their hard work and efficiency.

Town Hall will be closed Monday, February 19, for President’s Day. The Town Clerk’s Office will be closing at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, so the staff can attend the Special Fairfield County Clerk’s Special Meeting.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of speaking at the Senior Center on the topic of “older bones and joints”.  It was great to see many familiar faces. Our Senior Center is such a vibrant and supportive place, and we look forward to continuing to provide such great support for our seniors.

There has been a tremendous show of support for Senator Tony Hwang’s “bill concept” to exempt towns with over 70% watershed from the 8-30g statute which allows developers to override local zoning laws to build housing which includes affordable units. We all acknowledge the importance of protecting our reservoirs and watershed land and this is an effective way of doing this. Given the support shown for this concept we look forward to our State Senator moving this forward.

Last weekend we experienced a small watermain break, our third in a short period of time. It was quickly repaired and again we appreciate Aquarion’s rapid response. I did voice my concerns with the water company, and they had their engineers look into the breaks. The conclusion was that the mains are not particularly old and that the three events were all of different circumstances and therefore, unconnected random events.

Just a reminder, Easton K-9 Officer TJ is in the running for a grant of up to $5,000. TJ is a 7-year-old German Shepherd, handled by Officer Tamra French. He is trained and certified in building searches; apprehension and handler protection; tracking; narcotics detection and evidence recovery. In addition to their regular patrol work, TJ and Officer French frequently conduct demonstrations for the local schools, Girl and Boy Scout troops, Senior Center and they attend many public events. The Easton PD's K-9 program is funded solely through donations. Funds from the grant would help pay for TJ's food, veterinary care and training. To cast a vote for TJ online go to:  https://k9.hometownfoundation.org/submission/view/103.

Please call the Aspetuck Health District at 203-227-9571 x235 to schedule your pick up of a free radon test kit – while supplies last.

Enjoy your weekend,

Dave
