Christmas Tree Capital

Good afternoon,

There is so much going on in Easton over the holidays. In a beautiful rural town such as ours, there is so much to appreciate and as you can see below a lot to do.

Each year the Easton Garden Club supports our Easton Tree Farms & Stands and those Farms creating Holiday Cheer by publishing a Holiday version of the Easton Farm Map highlighting the location of Christmas Tree Farms & Stands as well as Town coffee shops, restaurants, and village stores and Farms open during the Holiday season. Please visit Town Hall or https://www.eastongardenclubofct.org/easton-farm-map-holiday-edition to get a map. We are the Christmas Tree Capital in Connecticut and folks come from far and wide to get Easton trees.  On Wednesday, we will hold a press conference at 11:00am at Town Hall with local leaders to highlight our farms and Christmas trees, led by our Agricultural Commission.

On December 2nd, the Easton Public Library will have a Gingerbread House decorating class from 12:30pm-2:00pm.  The friends of the library will have a Gingerbread House Contest and entries should be submitted by December 2nd. Please see website www.eastonlibraryfriends.org or email  friends@eastonlibrary.org for details.

On Sunday, December 3rd, the Easton Public Library will be hosting a Holiday Market and Tree Lighting ceremony from 3:00pm-6:00pm. Lots of Easton folks represented in our new-this-year “Easton Expo”. The Joel Barlow chorus will be there as well as Santa and Mrs. Claus. There will be plenty of wonderful activities for families to enjoy, a sing-a-long, button making, a photo booth, whack-a-mole game and more. Hope to see you there.

The Easton Police Department will be in the library parking lot on Sunday, December 3rd from 8:00am-12:00pm collecting new unwrapped toys for Stuff-a-Cruiser to benefit Toys for Tots.

Easton Pride is delighted to debut “A Very Merry Pride Christmas" at Sport Hill Farm on December 9th from 1:00pm-3:00pm, inviting all ages. We hope those coming to Easton to visit The Christmas Tree Capital of Connecticut will join us after selecting your holiday tree and celebrate with Easton Pride! Craft a Pride ornament or choose a ceramic one from Easton's own Sara Hunsucker, get your photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus, make a wreath with Rising Iris Farm, taste sweet treats from Southern Belle Bites, shop Sport Hill Farm's store and pick up some pride swag! Lucky Dog hot dog truck will be serving up their signature food with pride!

The Easton Senior Center is holding their annual Gift and Holiday Boutique sale. Lots of items for everyone! Stop in and do your holiday shopping locally and support our seniors every day from 9:00am- 3:00pm through December 20th.  Cash or checks accepted.

Most of you have received a holiday season appeal from Ukraine Aid International regarding our sister city Sviatohirsk. They have already begun what looks to be a bitterly cold and stormy winter. While we are asked to support many causes this time of year, I hope you will consider the citizens of our sister city. Having been there I can tell you that they are most wonderful and deserving people facing unimaginable circumstances. Here is the link https://donorbox.org/sviatohirsk-easton-sister-cities

Again, do not forget that this can be a tough time for folks around the holidays as well. We are a great community because we look out for our neighbors. Please check in on neighbors you think may need help. We have great resources in town. The Easton Senior Center and Daniel Simonelli, our Municipal Agent are here to help.

Have a great weekend. See you at the Christmas tree lighting.

Dave
