1/19/2024 A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass

Snow

Good afternoon,

I want to thank our public works department for an excellent job on our town roads in a difficult storm this week. Temperatures are remaining extremely cold so I want to remind folks that if they are having issues with the cold please call the non-emergency police number, (203)268-4111, and we can open up warming centers. For assistance with heating fuel call our municipal agent, Daniel Simonetti at (203)268-1137.

Sen. Tony Hwang and Rep. Anne Hughes invite you to a Pre-Session Legislative Forum on Saturday, January 20th at 3:00pm at the Easton Public Library. This forum is an opportunity for taxpayers to ask questions about the state legislature’s upcoming session and discuss legislative priorities with their elected representatives. The event is open to the public, and we encourage all friends and neighbors to attend!

Please join the Historical Society and the Congregational Church of Easton in welcoming Preservation Connecticut this Sunday, January 21st at 11:30am in the Church Hall at the Old Staples Academy, 336 Westport Road, Easton. Preservation Connecticut is a nonprofit organization that works in partnership with the State Historic Preservation Office, property owners and municipalities to protect buildings and landscapes that contribute to our state’s heritage and our economy.  If you are interested in learning more about historic easements as well as state and national historic registries, please join us for a conversation with their deputy director Christopher Wigren, author and architectural historian of Connecticut Architecture, Stories of 100 Places. His articles and essays have appeared in the Hartford Courant, the New Haven Register, and Connecticut Explored magazine.  He will be joined by Stacey Vairo and Stefan Danczuk, two of their staff circuit riders specializing in architectural and archaeological preservation. Please note parking is available behind the Academy and across the street next to the church. This free presentation will be followed by a discussion and refreshments will be served.

The Town Clerk’s office will be closing at 1:30 on Tuesday, January 23rd for continuing education.

Just a friendly reminder that the second installment real estate tax bills as well as supplemental motor vehicle tax bills were due as of January 1, 2024, but are payable without interest until February 1, 2024.

I will be holding a “brown bag meeting” on January 25th, at the town hall conference room, at 7:00pm.  All are welcome. This is a chance to have an informal discussion about any topic that folks are interested in. I look forward to seeing you there.

At last night’s board of selectmen meeting we again discussed protecting board and commission members, elected, appointed and town employees. We will set up a task force to consider our options.  This task force will include members from the insurance commission, human resources and law enforcement as well as members of the public. We also discussed land preservation, including watershed protection.

Stay warm, check on neighbors, and have a great weekend.

Dave
