Happy Halloween! Enjoy this beautiful Fall weekend and all the exciting festivities Easton has to offer. Daylight Savings time is next weekend, November 6th. We are still looking to fill a couple of Board and Commission positions, one with Park & Recreation and two with the Easton Diversity and Inclusion Task Force. Absentee Ballots are available at the Town Clerk’s office for the November 8, 2022 state and federal elections. This year’s ballot is has a very important question about amending the state constitution to allow for early voting. Most states in the country have provisions for early voting. Connecticut has only the standard absentee ballot system, but no way for people to vote prior to election day. Obviously, this is designed to allow more people to participate in our elections. Please give some thought to this question and look for it on the ballot.
On Saturday, October 29th from 10am-2pm at Samuel Staples Elementary School the Town will host an Electronics and Prescription Drug Take Back Event.

Please join us at the 1st Annual Free Spirit Festival Day sponsored by the Easton Park & Rec Department, Cemetery Committee and Christ Church on Saturday, October 29th. The day will start with a 5K walk/run starting and ending at Christ Church. On site, there will be pumpkin decorating, face painting, a fun run and much more. There are so many wonderful Fall and Halloween activities that you can find at our farms. It is well worth visiting them. The Annual Trunk or Treat will take place on Monday, October 31st at 5:30pm at Samuel Staples. Please come join the fun! There is a chance that we may move into Staples due to rain, please see Park & Rec Facebook page and/or Town of Easton website after 11:00am for updates.
ROAD IMPROVEMENTS ON PART OF MORNING GLORY DRIVE AND A SECTION OF WEATHERVANE DRIVE. Beginning October 31st, weather permitting, roadwork will begin on Morning Glory Drive from RT 59 to Wintergreen Drive and Weathervane Drive from Morning Glory Drive to RT 59. The Town of Easton will be removing sections of curbing, milling existing pavement, and overlaying the road with new pavement. Once new pavement is completed, the Town will replace curbing, top soil behind new curbing and repair driveway aprons. These roads will be closed to thru traffic, please use alternate routes. Road will be passable for School Buses.
Celebrate the Day of the Dead (Grades 2-5) on Thursday, November 3rd at 4:30 at the Easton Public Library. This program will be led by Susan Striker, award-winning art educator and best-selling author. Create your own ceramic skull in the style of the Oaxaca people of Mexico, who joyfully welcome lost loved ones when they visit us for one day every year. Registration required.
Easton’s EMS Department continues its campaign for a sorely needed new building through a fundraising drive on weekends in front of EMS headquarters at 448 Sport Hill Road across the street from Silverman’s Farm. Thank you to all the volunteers for donating their time and to the residents for their generous donations.
The Easton Volunteer Fire Company is helping former members that are unable to help themselves. Members reading about the ongoing struggles of the Union Cemetery here in Easton raised the question on just how many former members are buried at the Cemetery. It turns out that there are 44 former members of The Easton Volunteer Fire Company buried at the Union Cemetery. The EVFC membership acted quickly and approved a donation of $4,800 to help cleanup and maintain the cemetery. Bob Laskey also a member of the EVFC has been donating a large amount of his time over the last year to clean up the cemetery. The EVFC is proud to support the Union Cemetery Committee and people like Bob Laskey that are donating their time and money to ensure the upkeep of the cemetery.

The American Legion Post 176 of Monroe and Post 160 of Easton will hold Veterans Day memorial services on the Stepney Green in Monroe, Connecticut on November 11th at 11:00 am. Post 176 is led by Commander Vic Yanosy and Charles L. Ruman and Post 160 is led by Commander Donald Rodgerson. They will officiate the ceremony. The public is encouraged to attend, acknowledge and remember the veteran’s contributions and sacrifices.
