03/01/2024 A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass

Budget

Good afternoon,

On Tuesday evening, March 5th the Board of Finance will begin reviewing individual department budgets starting at 7pm at the Senior Center and via Zoom. We will also be meeting on March 6, 7 (BOE presentation), 12 and 13. Details can be found on the website. After the Board of Finance meetings, a preliminary budget will be published and discussed at a public hearing on Monday, March 25th along with the Region 9 budget. Following the public hearing further revisions can be made and then the presentation to the town meeting will be on Monday, April 29th. On Tuesday, May 7th, the referendum will be held to vote on approving the budget. I want to thank all our department heads who worked hard to develop responsible budgets, balancing the need to provide great service to our town and the need to control spending and taxes as well as to our Board of Finance members who spend many long evenings finalizing the overall budget. I also want to point out that the Easton Board of Education will present their budget to the board of finance on March 7. The Board of Selectmen meeting will be held at 6pm on March 7th to avoid conflicting with the Board of Finance.

Save the date for the Annual Boy Scout Gourmet Breakfast, March 23rd at Easton Community Center from 7:30am to noon. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by emailing Troop66Breakfast@gmail.com.

As a reminder there will be early voting starting with the Presidential Preference Primary for both the Republicans and Democrats. More details to follow, but this will be the first time we are doing this and the Registrars of Voters are working hard to organize this with less guidance and funding from the state than we would have liked to have seen. This is a new process due to an amendment to the state constitution which was passed in 2022.
