NOTICE TO EASTON TAXPAYERS
CONNECTICUT STATUTES

All taxpayers who may be eligible to qualify for tax benefits under the above Statutes must file applications with the Assessor’s Office. Applications for Forest Land must be approved by the Connecticut State Forester. Those who wish to apply for this benefit for the first time, must file no later than October 31, 2023. Those who have filed and qualified for this are not required to re-apply.
APPLICATION FOR POULTRY, LIVESTOCK AND MACHINERY EXEMPTION
Approved applicants will be exempt for the taxation of all poultry and livestock and will also receive an assessment reduction of up to $100,000 for farm machinery. In accordance with Section 12-91, failure to file this application with the Assessor ANNUALLY on or before November 1, 2023 shall be considered a waiver of the right to such exemption for assessment year.
PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FOR CERTAIN FARM BUILDINGS
In accordance with Public Act 0234, The Town of Easton is providing an additional exemption from property tax of any building used for farming. Such exemption shall not apply to any residence of such farmer and shall be subject to the application & qualification process provided, on or before November 1, 2023 a written application for the exemption shall be filed with the Assessor’s office showing at least FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS in gross sales from such farming operation, or incurred at FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS in expenses with respect to the most recently completed taxable year of such farmer prior to the commencement of the assessment year for which such application is made on forms to be prescribed by the Commissioner of Agriculture.
Failure to file such application in said manner and form within the time limit prescribed shall be considered a waiver of the right to such exemption for the assessment year.
