Tax Relief Benefits & Exemptions
Easton Senior Tax Relief Program
The Town of Easton provides tax relief for qualifying seniors in two programs, the Tax Abatement program and the optional Tax Deferral program. Please see 2021 Tax Relief for the Elderly Ordinance which is on file in the Town Clerk’s office and can be found on the Town of Easton website at https://www.eastonct.gov/about-easton/pages/ordinances-ecode for complete details.
Easton Senior Tax Program Applications will be mailed out to current participants. If you meet the qualification requirements listed below and are interested in applying for tax relief please click here or contact the Assessor’s Office at 203-268-6291. Applications must be completed and returned by Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
Qualification Requirements:
- The applicant or spouse must be 65 as of December 31st prior to the fiscal year for which tax relief is sought (or a surviving spouse 60 or older).
- The property must be owned by the applicant and be their principal residence.
- The applicant must have lived in Easton for at least five years.
- The combined income of all adults living in the residence must be less than $85,000.
- The combined assets of all adults living in the residence must be less than $650,000.
State Elderly and Disabled Homeowners Program
Applicants may be eligible for this program if they the following requirements:
- Applicant(s) must own the property for which tax relief is sought and must reside at said property as their principle residence.
- Applicant(s) must be over the age of 65 years old by the end of the calendar year preceding the filing period OR applicant must be totally disabled (regardless of age). *Current proof of disability will be required at the time of application.
- Applicant(s) must meet the income requirements for the year in which they are filing.

Marital Status Maximum Income Limit
Single $43,800
Married $53,400
Filing Period is February 1st to May 15th. Applicants must file every other year in order to maintain eligibility. In order to apply, applicants must provide the following documentation.
- Federal Income Tax Return. If you are not required to file a tax return, you must provide documentation of all income.
- Social Security 1099 Statement.
- If under the age of 65 years old and Social Security disabled, you must all provide current proof of disability from Social Security Administration.
Application for Tax Credits – Elderly and Totally Disabled Homeowner – 2023
Eligible applicants who file between February 1, 2024 – May 15, 2024 will receive the tax credit on their real estate tax bill in July 2024.
State Additional Veterans Exemption
Veterans who have been deemed for the Veterans Exemption Program may also be eligible for the State Additional Veterans Program. This program is income based and if eligible will increase the veterans’ exemption amount.

Filing Period is February 1st to October 1st. Applicants must file every other year and provide the following documentation.
- Federal Income Tax Return.
- Schedule A from Federal Tax Return.
- Social Security 1099 Statement.
- If under the age of 65 years old and Social Security disabled, you must all provide current proof of disability from Social Security Administration.
- Copy of all other income not included in the above documentation.
Application for Additional Veteran’s Exemption - 2024
Eligible applicants who file between February 1, 2024 - October 1, 2024 will receive the Additional Veterans Exemption on the October 1, 2024 Grand List (billed in July 2025).
State Elderly and Disabled Renters Rebate Program
Applicants may be eligible for this program if they meet the following requirements:
- Applicant(s) are currently renting within the Town of Easton
- Applicant must be over the age of 65 years old by the end of the calendar year preceding of filing period OR applicant must be totally disabled (regardless of age). Current proof of disability will be required at the time of application.
- Applicant(s) must meet the income requirements for the year in which they are filing.

Filing period is April 1st to October 1st. Applicants must file annually and provide the following documentation.
- Federal Income Tax Return If you are not required to file a tax return, you will need to provide documentation of all income.
- Social Security 1099 Statement.
- Current proof of disability (If under the age of 65 years old).
- Proof of all other income not included in the above documentation.
- Proof of rent and utility payments made for the calendar year prior to the filing year.
Application for Renter’s Rebate of Elderly Renters and Totally Disabled Person
Eligible applicants who apply between April 1, 2024 – October 1, 2024 will receive a check sent from the State of Connecticut. Typically these checks would arrive by the end of December 2024.
BLIND TAXPAYERS PROPERTY EXEMPTION
In accordance with Connecticut General Statute 12-81 (17) and sub-section 12-89, 12-90, and 12-92, property in the amount of a $3000 assessment may be exempt for a qualified taxpayer. The taxpayer must file their proof of blindness, with the Assessor, on or before October 1st. Those who have filed in the past do not have to re-file.

Tax Exemption Application - Blind Person
TOTALLY DISABLED PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION
Connecticut Statute (12-81), sub-section 55, provides a $1000 tax exemption, on property assessments to totally disabled residents. Application forms must be filed in the Assessor’s Office by October 1st. Those who have filed in the past do not have to re-file.
