Good afternoon,

Today, we begin our long weekend break in celebration of Independence Day, the Fourth of July. As was the case on Memorial Day it unfortunately will not be the Fourth of July we are accustomed to. Many of the traditional gatherings are still unsafe because of the pandemic. 

Please be cautious and careful. Connecticut has avoided the fate of many other states which reopened so let us all commit to keeping it that way. As always, wearing a mask, social distancing and hand washing are key components to keeping you and your family safe.

On a practical note, while Town Hall officially remains closed, we are allowing residents to come in to pay their taxes in person. The protocol is to enter through the Center Road main entrance, pay at the window, and exit the Morehouse Road side door. We still hope that most of you will pay your taxes by mail or deposit in the blue bin in the Police Department lobby. The goal is to have the online payment system working by the end of next week.

All other functions at Town Hall should continue to be conducted by email or over the phone. The library will open on July 6, 2020. Procedures are posted on the Easton Library website.

This past year has been unique and has presented many challenges to our great United States of America. Our ancestors have taught us how to be resilient in the face of these challenges. Remembering how our forefathers overcame obstacles, we can envision how truly strong we can be as a nation united. We live now, as we did on the Fourth of July 1776, by these guiding principles…. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”.
