3/24/2020 A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass...

Good Afternoon,

Today, after consulting with Captain Doyle, our Emergency Management Director, I signed a Declaration of Local Civil Preparedness Emergency in Easton.  I cannot stress enough that this is not done because of any material change of the situation in our town. The Captain has pointed out that in the future, this may be beneficial to Easton in procuring supplies that we may potentially need. That is the reason to take this action at this time.  I am fully aware of how this may sound scary to many, allow me reassure you it is purely administrative.  Nothing in the day to day operations of the town will change. All departments and the Board of Selectmen will continue to function exactly as they have been. In keeping with the promise of transparency, I wanted to make the town aware of this declaration.

Coronavirus affects the respiratory system. Therefore we need to be mindful of people in town with respiratory issues. This can create serious problems leading to transports to the hospital resulting on a strain on our first responders which then can affect us all. We have already banned all open burning that normally requires a permit.  However, smoke from any outdoor fire can aggravate underlying conditions.  Exposure to cigarette smoke can do the same.  Please try to be considerate of your neighbors. This is a time when we all need to come together.  

Greisers Coffee & Market, The Blue Bird Inn Restaurant, and the Easton Village Store remain open for safe curbside pickup and some delivery options.  Please remember they are small businesses who need our support. Patronizing them now is crucial to their survival so that we will still have them in town when we return to normal.  I am waiting to hear about some of our farms and farm stands which can still provide produce resources.
