2024 Canvass of Registered Voters

The Registrars of Voters’ Office conducts a yearly canvass of registered voters, between January 1st and April 30th, as required by the Connecticut General Statutes Section 9-32.  In order to maintain current records, letters are sent out to voters that the registrars believe may have moved out of town.  One of the methods of Canvass that we use is based on data we receive from the National Change of Address list (NCOA), which is produced by the United States Postal Service.

We ask anyone receiving a canvass letter to complete the response, sign, and return the letter to our office at their earliest convenience.  It is important to return the completed canvass letter as soon as possible.  If we do not receive a response within 30 days, the elector’s voting status may be changed from “Active” to “Inactive”.  We also send out other Canvass letters because some residents move out without registering their change of address with the Post Office.

We ask anyone receiving a canvass letter addressed to someone in their household who no longer lives at that address to, if possible, please forward the envelope to the addressee at his/her current address.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the Registrars of Voters’ Office if you have any questions regarding the canvass process.
