A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass...

Read message.

Good afternoon,
I want to begin by congratulating everyone in Town for continuing to do a wonderful job of hygiene and social distancing. The level of reported cases in Easton is very stable, and the trend in the hospitals and throughout the State is slowly improving. Some part of our daily lives will slowly and carefully start to come back. That is wonderful. Unfortunately, many more people will continue to be infected and worse, many more will die. We still need to be diligent in our social distancing, mask wearing and hand washing when there is any risk that we cannot keep our distance.

In a private transaction, The Aspetuck Land Trust purchased Gilberti’s Farm this week. This is wonderful for our town, preserving space and farm land in perpetuity. This farm is a landmark in Easton and a significant part of our farming culture. The Aspetuck Land Trust is a great partner to Easton. As you may have read in my opinion editorial in the Easton Courier, The Aspetuck Land Trust would like to partner with us to obtain a grant from the State to purchase the 17 acres along the Mill River on the South Park Property. What would happen to the remainder of the property is nowhere near any decision or even proposal and no action would be taken without town wide approval.

Many of you have discovered that in these times where we all crave the opportunity to get out of our homes and enjoy Easton’s open space, The Aspetuck Land Trust’s properties are wonderful places to hike and get some fresh air (of course with social distancing). The entrances to this wonderful space is limited and from residential streets. Please be respectful and mindful of the neighbors who live near these entrances. They are finding their quiet roads inundated by visitors. The rangers and the police will enforce traffic laws as needed.

There is real progress on the South Park Avenue Bridge and as we begin the month of May, I hope to be cutting ribbon before month’s end!

The Tax Collector will soon be passing along information about property tax deferrals and the forms needed to secure them. This information will also be on our website. There is information from our Assessor regarding Senior Tax Relief Program.

Stay Strong!!!
