A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass...

I hope that you are enjoying this so far moderate winter. Our snow plowing budget certainly is! Without any doubt the highlights of this week were the two brown bag forums I had with residents. Both sessions were attended by 20-30 people and we discussed a wide range of issues.

I would say the number one issue was the Morehouse Park property. Some legitimate concerns were raised about how the distribution of information is made public and I have taken those to heart. I hope to have a preliminary plan (somewhat confusingly labeled “Letter of Intent”) completed and posted in the next week or so. A Public Hearing will be scheduled after review and fine tuning.

There was some discussion about South Park and I hope to formalize the South Park Advisory Committee charge and membership at this week’s Board of Selectmen meeting.

There were also concern’s raised about our participation in the Westport Weston Health District. Public information sessions are being scheduled and will be announced soon. As I have explained previously, a Public Hearing and a Town Meeting is required to approve participation in the WWHD.

Other topics discussed were 5G, the Village District plan and communication in general. I believe it is fair to say that while there are a variety of opinions on most of these topics, the general consensus was that the meetings were helpful, and the exchange of ideas was open and honest. Personally, I wish to thank all of those who attended, not just for their presence but for their input which was both insightful and respectfully presented.  I very much look forward to further discussions with more of you, and plan to schedule these Q & A gatherings monthly. The next brown bag lunch will be held at Town Hall at noon on February 18, 2020.  The next evening Q & A will be held at Town Hall at 5:30 p.m. on February 19, 2020.

Some further issues in town; regarding communications, you will see little mini  flyers in departments at  Town Hall and at other locations in  town encouraging people to sign up for the town website.  We have also started investigating how to improve the website.  Beams are scheduled to be installed across the South Park Avenue Bridge this week. Lastly, all departments have been working on their 2020-2021 budgets.

Thank you and I will be back in touch soon.
