Fortunately, mother nature has cooperated with us, and by bringing some rain has alleviated our safety concerns. All proceeds go to the Easton Volunteer EMS “New Building Fund”.
Grow a Row has been a successful pilot program due to the collaborative efforts of Food Rescue Us and Alison Witherbee (the town’s Municipal Agent for the Aging). The program is ending on Tuesday September 13th, but the hope is to grow (no pun intended) it more next year and make fresh, local fruits, veggies and eggs accessible to more Easton residents. A huge THANK YOU to Shaggy Coos for hosting us, to Silverman’s and Sport Hill Farm for donations and to the backyard gardeners who shared their extra produce with us! There continues to be discussions about the conservation easement on South Park Ave. Questions and answers about approval of the legal document entitled Conservation Restriction can be found on the supplement I posted at https://www.eastonct.gov/home/news/supplemental-post-regarding-the-south-park-property. Lastly, we continue to work on the spill at EVS. As more research has been done several other spills dating back to the 1980’s have been identified and led by the fire marshal working with DEEP and the environmental consultant hired by EVS. We continue to work on whether further remediation will be necessary. On or about July 27, 2022, the annual well testing was done on the well that services the Fire House. The results came back showing that the water was safe to drink. The results were submitted to the Health District and our Food Service Permit was issued. This is the well that is used for all food prep and dish cleaning for Carnival.
There is a second well located on the green that supplies non-drinkable water to both the EMS Building and The Firemen’s Green. This water is not used for human consumption or food preparation at either location. On or about September 2, 2022, we did however have this well tested. The results showed that the water continues to be outside the range for human consumption. However, in speaking with the test lab and our well company the fix is easy and we can simply install a filter to solve this issue. We have contracted with our well company to install the needed filters and will retest the water. Let me reiterate that this water has not been used for human consumption for over 10 years.
