Good afternoon,

It is hard to believe that it is Memorial Day already and summer is beginning. The town will have its Memorial Day parade and commemoration on Monday.  The parade begins at 9:30am at the firehouse and conclude with a ceremony at Town Hall. This is one of those opportunities for us to gather as a community.  We come together to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country that we can never repay. Thanks to our local American Legion Post 160 who help organize the ceremony. I look forward to seeing you there.

The Easton Volunteer Emergency Medical Services will be hosting an open house at their headquarters located at 448 Sport Hill Road on May 29th from 11:00am to 2:00pm. We invite the public to stop by after the Memorial Day Parade to enjoy hot dogs and drinks, free of charge.

The 4th Annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony will begin at 5:00pm on June 1st at Town Hall. There will be food, crafts and games for the children, pride swag and live music.

This week the Senior Center hosted an open house that was very well attended. It was a reminder that we provide so many wonderful services for our seniors!

As many of you now know, I have just returned from visiting our sister city Sviatohirsk, Ukraine.  What I witnessed was truly extraordinary. The degree of damage in this beautiful city was incredible, but far more impressive was the effort by Mayor Rybalkin and his limited staff to begin the rebuilding of the city.  I thought that the sister city effort would be a great project for Easton as something that we could come together as a community to do. Having seen the devastation and heroic action of the town’s leadership first hand, Sviatohirsk is so deserving of our help and support. There was a great program last Sunday at the library on Stories from Sviatohirsk, and on June 3rd from 3:00pm-6:00pm, the Ashlar Aspetuck Lodge will host a Sviatohirsk, Ukraine benefit concert.  Also, sunflowers will be blooming soon in front of SSES. Please donate to Donate — Ukraine Aid International. This is such a great cause!

Enjoy the long weekend! Also, I urge you to take a minute to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day. I have just seen a stunning reminder of the adage that, “Freedom is not free”.  Please remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedom.

Have a great weekend,

Dave
