11/19/2021 A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass

Grocery Bags

Good afternoon,

The numbers for Covid have ticked up some so we are at a rate of 9.5 per 100,000 for the weeks ending November 13. I’m sure you all have seen the news about rates in Europe. This does not mean we have to change anything but it is a reminder that we are not finished with the pandemic yet. Please use good judgment.

Last night at the Board of Selectmen meeting we approved using the money from a grant that the town has accepted to hire a consultant to assist in writing the required town plan on providing affordable housing in Easton. There will be a public forum on November 23 at 7:30 PM at Samuel Staples, to discuss public act 21-29 and affordable housing in town. While I realize this is the week of Thanksgiving and some will be traveling I was able to get State Senator Tony Hwang, Representative Anne Hughes and P&Z chair Ray Martin to speak on the issue that day. This is informational only and will be recorded. There is much misinformation and I think we can help the citizens by getting out in front of explaining what the act actually says. . We are required to produce a plan by June 30, 2022, and in formulating that plan there will be multiple opportunities for public input. This session on the 23rd is simply to provide some information from our legislators on the act itself.  We all understand the complexity surrounding affordable housing and we want to provide as much opportunity as possible for education and public input. This is only a first small step.

Our senior center has been working overtime to collect and deliver food to those in our area who are less fortunate it has been an incredible effort and we should be proud as a town.

I wanted to remind everyone that the Easton Garden Club Annual Wreath & Poinsettia Sale is well underway.   In addition to accepting printed order forms, they are utilizing their website to accept orders by credit card or PayPal through our online store at www.eastongardenclubofct.org/wreath-and-poinsettia-sale   Deadline for placing orders is Monday, November 22. Each year the EGC host’s this fundraiser to fund activities that benefit our Easton Community. Soon they will be decorating the Town of Easton with wreaths, holiday greenery, and hand delivering gifts of poinsettias to our Seniors in need for the holidays. Thank you to Alison Witherbee, our Easton Municipal Agent for the Aging, together with the Easton Senor Center, for providing the EGC with this important list.  Also do not forget the senior center boutique with tons of great gifts, now through November 21, 9AM to 3 PM.

In December we will be looking at a number of board and commission seats that are at the end of their terms. There are a number of positions that will likely need to be filled. This town runs on the work of those who volunteer their services. Please consider taking a role in helping our town. We will post more information shortly.

Have a great weekend,

Dave
