Highway

Plow Routes: We realize that no one likes to be last but the roads are all plowed in an orderly routine and each of our drivers have a route in which to follow.

The main roads are their first priority with special attention to steep hills and difficult intersections. Next to be done are the side roads and then dead ends.

Blocked Driveways: The homeowner is responsible for access to his driveway and residents are reminded that all snow plows angle the same way, to the driver's right, and when going by they will push the snow in front of a driveway.

The only way to avoid extra shoveling is to wait until the Department of Public Works crews have finished their final clean up on the street.

Street Parking: All residents are reminded that during snow removal operations, all vehicles need to be moved off the street. Town ordinance Title IV C; prohibits the parking of vehicles on streets during and after snowstorms.

In the event that a vehicle is unable to make it up a steep driveway or hill, the vehicle needs to be removed from the traveled portion of the road.

Vehicles not removed from the roadway will be towed at the owner's expense.

Private Plowing: The Town of Easton prohibits plow contractors and homeowners from pushing snow from driveways onto Town streets. This practice can create a hazardous condition as well as hindering the Town's snow removal efforts.

If there is no other alternative to pushing snow/ice into the road, the plow driver must plow off the snow piles left across the road by re-plowing until the road is safe.

Mailbox Damage Policy

Mailbox Damage: Residents are reminded that mailboxes and supporting posts must be installed to withstand the rigors of snow removal, including the force of snow pushed from the street onto the roadside.

The Town does not repair or replace mailboxes and/or posts that crack or break from the force of plowed snow or because they were improperly installed.

Mailboxes should be 15 inches away from the edge of the road and 42 inches high to the bottom of the mailbox.

The Town will only be responsible to repair or replace a mailbox if it is determined that the plow physically hit it, and the above conditions apply.

Residents who feel they have a legitimate complaint should call the Public Works Dept. at 203-268-0714.
