Motor Vehicles

The Motor Vehicle Grand List is composed of motor vehicles registered in Easton as of October 1st each year.  Motor vehicles are valued annually using the J.D. Power NADA Pricing Guide and are assessed at 70% of the Clean Retail value as of October 1st.  The July tax bills cover the time period of October 1st of the previous year through September of the current year.  Vehicles registered after October 1st and before August 1st can expect to receive a Supplemental Tax Bill due the following January 1st.

If you have disposed of the vehicle prior to August 1st you may be entitled to a credit.  If you have disposed of the vehicle but have transferred plates to your new vehicle no action is necessary.  You will receive a credit on the Supplemental Tax Bill.  If you have disposed of a vehicle or moved out of state, TWO forms of proof are required:  1) Copy of the plate receipt from CT DMV along with proof of the disposition of the vehicle.

If you have moved within the State of Connecticut you will pay taxes based on where the vehicle was registered on October 1st; the vehicle will be taxed in your new location the following year as long as you have updated your address on your registration(s) with the CT DMV.
